Teaching is Insanity

But not really! Teaching is a noble, respectable profession that only the most dedicated, intelligent, passionate, and decent human beings should be doing. However, we are scaring them off. Hopefully, sharing my experience and those of other stellar teachers will help others see teachers, the students, and the public education system as whole, in a more positive light.

"How much homework is just right?"

It certainly isn't three hours for a 3rd grader.

Nor is it the amount that puts a student in bed late.

Then again, I don't think that a mandated limit is good either.

What's the right amount then? For a sensible take, I'll turn it over to KJ Dell'Antonia from Slate.com:

"Granted, not all the homework ... [seems] like it's worth it, but that's not about having less homework; it's about having the right homework. I'd like to read more about that."

Me too, KJ.

"Insane" teacher
About three years ago, I changed from pre-med to education. It's the best decision I've ever made! Now that I'm on the path to becoming a teacher, I've decided to share my journey to becoming the best educator I can be. Hopefully, others will share their journeys and musings on education.
